On the north side of the building are seals of the six nations under the flags of which Texas has been: France, Spain, Mexico, The Republic of Texas, The Confederacy and the United States. One name that appears above the salle port gives modern-day students a laugh: evidently early-day Texas stone workers were not familiar with the classic artist and etched in his name as "Michael Angelo".
