Fountain composed of a circular basin with moulded base and top rope style moulding. A replica of Columbus's flagship, from which water flows, sits atop the basin. Behind the ship is a rounded triangular backdrop with a globe inset showing the old world and the new world, set off by scrolled waves and more roped moulding.
Three decorative relief images appear at the rear: the sun, an astrolabe and Columbus's fleet.

The town of Bristol, R.I., commissioned Len Shartle to sculpt a major monument celebrating the quincentennial of Columbus and the discovery of America called Discovery.
