Annotation
Donated by the Sons of Columbus in America & friends. Restored in 1992 for $150,000. Funds raised from local Italian American groups.
By the Pittsburgh sculptor, Frank Vittor. Look carefully at the three ships and discover the motif of "CC" on one boat. One "C" is backwards. For many years a parade of enthusiastic Columbus-sons gathered here on October 12, Columbus' birthday.
Statue vandalized in 1997 (see Vandals attack Columbus statues) and again restored.
