Description
Marble statue of Columbus, dressed in a coat with puffed sleeves and an embellishment representing fur down the front, stockinged legs, and buckled shoes, stands holding a partially rolled document in his lowered right hand. He places his left hand upon a globe which rests on a low pedestal. The figure is placed atop a square base on school's balustrade.
Annotation
Commissioned by a local Knights of Columbus chapter, now disbanded. The marble statue replaces an earlier bronze statue, which disappeared in the late 1970s. The original 3 m tall bronze statue was dedicated on Nov. 29, 1894.
