A metal plaque below this has the inscription:
THIS MONUMENT WAS CREATED AND SITED | THROUGH THE TIRELESS EFFORTS OF THE FOLLOWING | "COLUMBUS QUINCENTENNIEL COMMITTEE OF | MIDDLETOWN, INC." MEMBERS: [followed by their names].
On the sides there is are large bronze plaque with the names of the people who sponsored the monument. One of these with a deptiction of Columbus' fleet.
The back side bears the inscription:
