hank the cowboy has promoted the pikes peak or bust rodeo since 1939.
he was created and named by stanley reed, a staff artist with the
gazette/telegraph, at the request of spencer penrose, founder of the
rodeo. he stands in this location to commemorate the outstanding
achievements and contributions of the individuals and organizations
inducted into the pikes peak or bust rodeo hall of fame. hank is a
gift to the citizens of the pikes peak region from the colorado springs
rodeo association, made possible by el pomar foundation, the anna
keesling ackerman trust, and the gazette.
