The Martyrs of Arad Memorial

Lenkey János (Eger 1807 - Arad 1850; Wikipedia) and Török Ignác (Gödöllő 1795 - Arad 1849; Wikipedia)
Hungarian generals defening Komárno fortress in 1848-49. Both were executed in Arad. Török is on the the 13 Martyrs of Arad, executed on 6 October 1849 (Wikipedia). Lenkey was not executed because of illnes, he died later in prison.

Description

3 m (10 ft.) tall red marble column on a pyramid of rocks. On the backside of the column the text "jókai egyesület MMIV" (Jókai Association, 2004). This column was made by Ryšavý and inaugurated 6 October 2004.

In 2005, to the column a block with texts and portraits was added - sculpted by Nagy and inaugurated 6 October 2005:

  1. "1849 arad"
  2. Relief portrait of Lenkey János, with his initials "LJ" and sculptor's signature "NJ MMV".
  3. Bullet and the names Lenkey János / Török Ignác
  4. Relief portrait of Török Ignác, with his initials "TI" and sculptor's signature "NJ MMV".

Annotation

Originally the monument was just a ca. 3 m tall limestone obelisk of red marble, made by Ryšavý and inaugurated 6 October 2004. The two relief portraits were added a year later, in 6 October 2005. These two portraits of the same size and type of the work of sculptor János Nagy.
