Description

Gigantic statue of Peter the Great on a ship.

Annotation

Statue of Peter the Great on the River Moscow. Originally the statue was made for Columbus, Ohio and it portrayed Cristopher Columbus on his ship. The town rejected this gargantuan statue of its namegiver. Undeterred, Tsereteli gave Columbus a little makeover, removed the crosses and replaced the head, and today, it is a Peter the Great statue and the monument commemorates the tercentenary of the Russian Navy.

The 94 m tall statue is the third tallest statue in the world.
