Bronze statue of the Marquis of Sá da Bandeira in uniform, holding a banner with the word LIBERTAS (Freedom). He is accompanied by a genius (boy) holding a torch, representing the light that emanates from freedom. On the front of the pedestal sits a woman - representing Africa - and a child. The child has a laurel wreath and mother points out for whom this laurel wreath is meant because he worked for the abolition of slavery. At the back of the pedestal sits History writing down the Marques' deeds. At the sides of the pedestal are two sleeping lions, below these lions are the dates 1814 and 1832 (referring to the reliefs).
