Stone statue, executed in 1948 by the Leopoldo de Almeida, it was inaugurated on 27 May 27 1952.

part of a group of four statues of illustrious figures of the 19th century, executed by the most influential sculptors of the Estado Novo, at the intersection of the Avenida da Liberdade and the Rua Alexandre Herculano:
