Bronze statue on top of a 23 meters (c. 75 ft) Corinthian order column, depicting King Peter IV of Portugal, who was also the first Emperor of Brazil, as Peter I, in a general's uniform and royal cloak, his head crowned in laurels, and holding the Constitutional Charter of 1826 ("carta constitucional 1826") in his right hand.
At the base of the column are reliefs of four Angels of Destiny.
On the corners of the square base there are the four female allegorical figures of Justice, Prudence, Strength, and Temperance, qualities attributed to the King.
