Commemoriation of the Battle of Praia Bay, on 11 August 1829, when Portuguese loyalists defeated a Miguelite fleet. As a result of this victory, Queen Maria II, acted to recognize Praia's residents for their heroism by appending 'da Vitória' (of the Victory) to its name (1837) 		Abraham Abohbot

Description

Marble statue of a woman with a palm branch, holding a shield with the coat of arms showing a tower, a ship and a shield with the date 11 de agusto de 1829. Next to her sits a goshawk with spread-out wings. The statue is placed on a marble pedestal with at the front a medaillon with a map of the 1829 Battle of Praia.
