Voldemārs Irbe - 'Irbīte'
Beļavas pagasts 1893 - Riga 1944
Bronze statue of the painter Irbite, sitting with his sketchbook on a rock. On the rock one of his sketches with his name and the name of the donator.
Voldemārs Irbe - 'Irbīte' was a very popular artist who was often to be seen barefoot and wearing a frock coat in all seasons. Only on very cold days would he wear shoes. Sometimes he was taken by the city authorities to the public bath and given a good wash and new suit of clothes. However, the next day he would be seen again in his old coat. He made his own pastel chalks which he used to draw wonderful pictures of Riga. He was killed by shrapnel on the last day of the Battle for Riga in 1944.
