Prezidentūros sodelis - President's Garden

Kaunas was from 1918 to 1940 the capital of Lithuania (since the historic capital Vilnius then belonged to Poland). The former palace of the Governor of Kovno [Kaunas], built in 1846, served during this period as the Presendential Palace. In the courtyard (open for public) are since 1996 statues of the three presidents during this period of independency:

Antanas Smetona, 1919-1920
Aleksandras Stulginskis, 1920-1926
Kazys Grinius, 7 June - 18 December 1926
Aleksandras Stulginskis (2nd time), 19 December 1926.
Antanas Smetona, (2nd time), 1926-1940
