Annotation

The idea to build the Rector Avenue of ASU (formerly LUA) came in 1991. When Lithuania regained its independence, the need was felt to look back the university's pre-war and war period. After all, the two-term rectors - prof. J. Tonkūnas and prof. V. Vilkaitis (who died in exile) were exiled to Siberia in 1941, one - Prof. B. Vitkus emigrated to the West in 1944. In the Rector Avenue was incorporated the bust of the first rector, J. Kriščiūnas (sculptor Bronius Vyšniauskas), unveiled in the Soviet period in 1984 at the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the university (this bust we haven't seen).
