Description

Marble statue by Giambologna above the arch leading to the river Arno. On the base is the abbreviation C.M.M.D.E. (Cosimo Medici Magnus Dux Etruriae = Cosimo de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany). The statue is flanked by lying personifications of Equità (Equity) and and Rigore (Strictness), sculpted by Danti in 1566.

Vincenzo Danti (Perugia 1530 - Perugia 1576), Italian sculptor (Wikipedia).
Giambologna, or Jean Boulogne, incorrectly known as Giovanni da Bologna and Giovanni Bologna (Douai 1529 - Florence 1608), sculptor, known for his marble and bronze statuary in a late Renaissance or Mannerist style (Wikipedia).
