In Greek mythology, Perseus was, alongside Cadmus and Bellerophon, the greatest Greek hero and slayer of monsters before the days of Heracles. Perseus beheaded the Gorgon Medusa and saved Andromeda from the sea monster Cetus

Description

Marble statue of Perseus standing naked except for his winged sandals and a helmet with wings (resembling Mercury's hat). He stands triumphant with Medusa's snakey head in his raised hand.

L'imponente statuàa in marmo proviene
dallo scalone di accesso alla Galleria Campori,
situata nel palazzo Campori di via Ganaceto e
gravemente danneggiata da un bombardamento nel 1944.
Raffigura il mitico eroe greco, figlio di Danae e di Giove,
che uccise la gorgone Medusa e libero' la bella Andromeda,
e si ispira ad uno' dei piu' celebri modelli dell'antichita',
l'Apollo del Belvedere, dal Cinquecento conservato
a Roma e fonte di ispirazione per numerose repliche
e rielaborazioni fino a tutto il secolo XIX.
