Description

Giant camera. Explanation from the information sign:
It was the winter of 1948, when Elio Guerra, a photographer from Rimini (Pennabilli), established here his own photo shop.
Shaped as a big "Ferrania Galileo" camera, the shop was supposed to be a support store during Guerra's summerjob.
Almost unexpectedly, he has been a forerunner of the Pop Art of the 60's, together with the other "tautological" architectures on the Adriatic Coast, the ship shaped summer camps "colonie", the ice-cream cone shaped street lamps, the beach umbrella shaped café. It soon became one of the most familiar place in Rimini.
Almost every tourist had a picture with the big camera and urban sketchers and artists used to stop in front of it.
Its purpose changed over time, from a support photograph store to a tourist information point. Afterwards there were the years of decline and then the years of restoration and requalification.
In any case, this giant camera became over theyears an essential metaphor of the Rimini "Riviera", and one of the most recognizable identity of Rimini to produce images and images of images…
