Antique Roman or Greek sculptor
1933 (copy) |
Bronze statue of Caesar as imperator, wearing lorica (cuirass) and paludamentum (short military cloack). Copy of the antique marble statue in the Palazzo Senatorio, Capitoline Museum, in Rome, dating from the reign of Trajan (AD 98-117) (Roman Artworks).
It was donated to the city of Rimini by Mussolini. During World War II the statue was hidden and recovered only in the early 1950s and placed in the Giulio Cesare barracks. The town had cast a new copy and placed that on the main square.
