Statue of a kneeling man, dressed in Volunteer uniform, holding a rifle. On the sides of the plinth are three reliefs, and on the fourth side a plaque with text in Irish. In the lower part of the plinth is a fountain.
The monument commemorates the men of the Old 'C' Company, 1st Battalion, Dublin Brigade - the Irish Volunteers who fought and died during the Easter Rising (1916) and the War of Independence (1919-21). It was unveiled on 19 February 1939 by a former captain of the company, Sean Prendergast.
