Hollow bronze hand patterned sphere containing an eternal flame (which was not burning ) and supported on a tree-trunk.
NB. On various websites the work is ascribed to the painter Tony O'Malley (1913-2003).
The Healing Hands "When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness and laying his hands on each, he healed them" Luke 4.40 This sculpture symbolises the healing ministry of Jesus which continues through the caring hands of the Sisters and Staff of the Mater Misericordiae Hospital - founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1861. The flame which never dies symbolises the everlasting love of God. Sculpture erected on February 11, 2000 to celebrate the Third Millennium of the Birth of Jesus.
