Pair of statues, one of a bull in the hall of the Irish Financial Services Centre (IFSC) and a one of a bear outside. At both, the plinth bears quotes in English and Irish from Táin Bó Cúailnge (chapter XXV. The Array of the Host), the center-piece of the eighth-century Ulster cycle of heroic tales, the English one in the translation by Thomas Kinsella.
The bear. The English text reads strong striking bear bear of great deeds. the táin |
The bull. The English text reads the father of great beasts overlooks the ox of the earth. the táin. (A friendly lady at the reception told us that is was not allowed to take photos inside the building, not even through an open door. So we had to make a photo through a glass door. Because of the reflection on this sunny day you also see the River Liffey and its quays; another cast of the bull is here). |
