Housewife, mother, widow, Mayoress of Dublin.
Born c. 1515 at Skreen, Co. Meath
Gave refuge to priests in her home.
Arrested during the celebration of Mass.
Died in prison c. 1584.
Declared Blessed 27 September 1992
FRANCIS TAYLOR
Merchant and Alderman of Dublin.
Born c. 1550 at Swords Co. Dublin.
Elected Mayor of Dublin 1595.
Imprisoned for seven years without charge or trial.
Died in prison on 30 January 1621.
Declared Blessed 27 September 1992

Annotation

Margaret Ball (Cobskill, Co. Meath 1515 - Dublin 1584), widow of a Lord Mayor of Dublin, arrested for her adherence to the Catholic faith and died of deprivation in the dungeons of Dublin Castle. She was declared a martyr for the faith by the Catholic Church and beatified in 1992, one of a group of 17 Irish Catholic Martyrs. (Wikipedia).

Francis Taylor (Swords, c. 1550 - Dublin 1621), a Mayor of Dublin, who was incarcerated because of his Catholicism. He has been declared a martyr for his faith and beatified by the Catholic Church (Wikipedia).

Margaret Ball was the grandmother of Francis Taylor's wife

The models were the sculptor's mother and father Una and Dermot, since the physical appearance of the martyrs little is known.
