Description

Monument characterized by theatricality and reference to all of the great historical styles and periods (postmodern thinking) on the walls of the Cistercians convent. Limestone high relief of King Matthew with three lions within gothic arches above a fireplace. In the fireplace Matthew's signature. At the top of the arch is a bronze raven holding a golden ring, the symbol of the Hunyadi. The fireplace is flanked by two limestone statues of allegorical figures of liberal arts. At some distance is a fountain with a bronze statue of a speaker. The wall next to the monument has three reliefs showing shields with an mathematics teacher, an geometric student and a chronicler. On the wall is the title of the momument painted:

Annotation

Erected at the 500th anniversary of King Matthew's death, unveiled on 6 April 1990. Later, some elements were added, such as the bronze statue of the speaker (May 1992), the shield with the chronicler (June 1992), the text 'Matthias Rex' (September 1993) and the shields with mathematic teacher and the astronomy student.

Involveld with the monument were the architects Masznyik Csaba and Krähling János építészek and the 'statikus' Kisfaludy Attila.
