Description

23 metres/75 ft. tall stone obelisk - the 'Pillar of Remembrance' - with a relief of a sword of sacrifice on two sides, and the coat of arms of Harrogate on the other sides. On two faces of the base is a relief representing the call to the arms in 1914 and Britannia draped the flag in 1918, on the two other faces have tablets with the names of the fallen.

Unveiled 1 September 1923 by the Earl of Harewood, Lord-Lieutenant of the West Riding of Yorkshire, in the presence of Princess Mary and Viscount Lascelles.

The architect was Ernest Prestwich.
