Stone statue of James Stuart in an oratorical pose.
The statue was unveiled on 9 August 1924 by the daughter of James Stuart.

a citizen of Hull who by
his interest in and devotion
to the welfare of this city
won the regard and esteem
of all those who knew him.

I also remember that i had
a father to convince me
that as i began mature life
i was a citizen of a nation
governed by democratic
principles and that it was
my duty as it is the duty of
every man according to
his ability and oppor-
tunity to do something
in the town in the neigh-
bourhood and the nation
to promote the wellbeing
of its inhabitants.

Sculptor

William Aumonier & Sons, firm of architectural sculptors, wood and stone carvers established by William Aumonier Sr (1839-1914). William Aumonier Jr (1869-1943) joined the business before 1891 and took it over after his father's death in 1914. He in turn was joined by his son, William Whitworth Aumonier (born c. 1897)(Mapping of Sculpture).
