Two dimensional female figure.

Inscription(s)

Maid of the Bridge
Anna Gillespie 2018

Like the Roman goddess Juturna, the Maid of the
Bridge Sculpture stands guard over the park and
the river. Paying tribute to the industrial past of
Bath Riversided and signalling the flow of the
River Avon, the Maid of the Bridge celebrates the
importance of water and heritage to the city of Bath.
The cast iron plates taken from the original
Victoria Bridge when it was restored in 2015 have
been used in the construction of the Maid of the Bridge.
The colours have been chosen to reference the river
and the heritage green of the Victoria Bridge which
is located slightly to the east.

Anna Gillespie is a sculptor who lives and works
in Bath. The highly technical design was made
possible by two Bath-based companies, Ironart
who made the sculpture and Buro Happold who
provided the engineering expertise.
