Description

Built in 1857 as the 'Academy for the Promotion of Fine Arts' by the architect C. Underwood and J.H. Hirst.

On the top of the façade is a allegorical group with Architecture, Painting and Sculpture.

In the center Architecture, left Painting and right Sculpture. The busts represents probably a painter and a sculptor.

The windowless second floor has five reliefs with putti active with various brances of art.

In the façade of the first floor are two niches with large stone statues, to the left of the painter Sir Joshua Reynolds, and to the right that of the sculptor Flaxman.
