Description

A 'tabernacle' canopy, in a decorated Gothic style, containing a slightly larger than life size statue of the bishop.

Gloria soli Deo
For the witness of Jesus and for the Word of God,
not accepting deliverance John Hooper DD Bishop of Gloucester
and Worcester, was burnt to ashes on this spot February ix

This Monument was erected by Public Subscription
Anno Domini mdccclxii on the site of a smaller one
the gift of James Clealand Esq. of Bangor Ireland

This monument was restored
by public subscription in the year mdcccciv

and was unveiled February ix mdccccv the cccl^th anniversary
of the martyrdom by W. Langley-Smith Mayor

Annotation

Erected on the place where he was martyred. Unveiled 9 February 1863.
