when, in 1678, düsseldorf's prince jan wellem
was returning from his wedding, a wheel
of his coach worked loose, a lad sprang
forward and turning cartwheels beside it
held it firm, for this he received a gold ducat.
it is still the tradition for düsseldorf children
to earn a pfennnig bny turning cartwheels in the
city's main street, the köningsallee.
