Marble statue of the 1st Marquess of Reading.

The statue was originally erected in Delhi but was repatriated to Reading in 1961 and erected here in 1971.

Charles Sargeant Jagger (Kilnhurst, near Rotherham, Yorkshire, 1885 -1934), British sculptor who, following active service in the First World War, sculpted many works on the theme of war (Wikipedia).
