Virtues at the Adelphi Bank

Description

The Adelphi Bank, built c. 1892 and designed c1891 by W.D. Caröe, has five full figures in niches at second floor level, two facing Castle Street and two facing Brunswick Street.
The identification of the statues as the virtues follows 'Rodhullandemu' on Wikimedia Commons.

Castle Street

Liverpool - Virtues at the Adelphi Bank
Peace: Woman with olive branch and a bird (dove) her shoulder.
Charity: Woman with child.

Brunswick Street

Liverpool - Virtues at the Adelphi Bank
Plenty: Woman with rudder.
Justice: blindfolded figure with scales and sword.
Truth: Male figure with sword and shield.

Sculptor

Charles Edward Whiffen (Cheltenham 1867 - London 1929), English sculptor (Mapping of Sculpture).
