The Port of Liverpool Building was constructed between 1904 and 1907 and was designed by Sir Arnold Thornely and F.B. Hobbs. The entrance is flanked by two allegorical statues, Commerce and Industry, with above them a steamship and a sailing ship respectively in a wreath composed of an inverted cornucopia and its spilt contents.
