Four large relief panels on the north and south side of of George's Dock building (see here). On the south side, facing the Mann Island, are 'Civil Engineering' and 'Construction' and on the north side, facing the Cunard Building across Brunswick Street, 'Architecture' and 'Decoration'. Each panel shows a central male figure with a characteristic object and two female figures holding tools.
Civil Engineering. Central figure with a disc containing a cross-section of the double tunnel. The both female figures are holding pneumatic drills. |
Construction. Central figure with a model of trabeation consisting of two vertical bricks supporting one horizontal. The female figures hold a Lewis Bolt (left) and a trowel (right). |
Architecture. Central figure with an Ionic capital. The female figures hold a set square (left) and a pair of compasses (right). |
Decoration. The central figure holds an Assyrian capital of two back-to-back crouching bulls. The left female figures holds a sculptor's mallet and a chisel, and the right figure an artist's palette and three paintbrushes. |
