Description

Memorial with at the top the personification of the City of Liverpool, wearing a crown and tabard decorated with the city's heraldic symbols. She is holding a globe on which is balanced a small ship. Below, on either side, are two other female figures representing Research and the Fruits of Industry, in view of Sir Alfred Lewis Jones' introduction of the banana to Britain.
At the front of the pedestal is plaque with a bust portrait, with the years 1845-1909, and on the back a relief of a medieaval sailing ship with below the name Enterprise.
