Description

Stone sculpture with four obelisk forming a gateway, the way is lined with the central towner of Durham Cathedral. It is places to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the arrival of St. Cuthbert's remains in Durham and symbolises the life and journey of St. Cuthbert.

this sculpture has been generously donated by british rail
to the city of durham council on long term loan. it was
originally exhibited at the 1990 international garden
festival gateshead and has been remodelled here to
commemorate the thousand year anniversary of the arrival
of teh community of st. cuthbert on teh durham peninsula
in 995 ad
the city council gratefully acknowledges the assistance of
british rail community unit, the original commissioning
agents, the public art development trust, northern arts and
northern aggregates limited in teh sculpture's installation.
