Description

Statue of a laughing friar on the façade of the Blackfriar Pub, built in 1875 by H. Fuller Clark. The exterior decorations (the statue and several reliefs) were added in 1903 by sculptors Nathaniel Hitch, Frederick T. Callcott and Henry Poole. It was saved from demolition in the '60s by John Betjeman.
The figure of the black friar was probably added in 1983.
