Description

14 meter (46 ft)-tall obelisk of Portland stone with four servicemen (infantryman, artilleryman, sailor and airman) at the corners. Each of these bronze figures stand with head bowed and weapon reversed in mourning.

Annotation

The monument was designed by the LNWR's architect, Reginald Wynn Owen, statues were sculpted by Ambrose Neale, chief artist of R.L. Boulton & Sons, who were contracted to build the monument. Unveiled on 21 October 1921 by Field Marshal The Earl Haig and dedicated by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
