Description

Pair of marble statues of the miner's union officials William Harvey (left) and James Haslam (right), both in a speaking attitude. On the plinths - the work of the local sculptor F. Turner - is an laurel branch with a miner's pick and a safety lamp.
The statues were unveiled on 26 June 1915 by Barnet Kenyon, M.P. for Chesterfield.
Someone who wanted to be funny put a pylon on Harvey's head; we could not take it off.
