Sleaford / World War I Memorial   Sleaford / World War I Memorial

Description

Hexagonal shaft and market cross. On the sides are slate panels, one with inscription and five with names. Above each panel is a carved shield representing the three services:
  1. RAF: Chevron and three stars (coat of arms of Sleaford)
  2. RAF: Eagle.
  3. Navy: Ship's wheel and fleur de lys
  4. Navy: Anchor.
  5. Army: Three fleur de lys
  6. Army: St. George's Cross
We doubt if 1, 3 and 5 are correct, since 1 is the arms of Sleaford, the other two are maybe the arms of Quarrington and Holdingham?
