Monument shaped like a disk, inspired by the rose window in the Abbey Church and executed in the Olympic commemorative colours of bronze, silver and gold. On both faces are the same medaillons with reliefs: in the center a large relief showing King Harold II with the Abbey Church, and the text king harold's town waltham abbey and the date. Around this are seven medaillons showing:
1. Portrait of King Henry VIII, who was a regular visitor of Waltham Abbey during hunting trips in Waltham Forest. |

2. The Olympic Torch Relay. |
3. Coat-of-arms of Waltham Holy Cross, used by the Waltham Abbey town council. |
4. The Eleanor Cross in Waltham Cross (see here). |
5. The Olympic Canoe Slalom event, which was held in Waltham Abbey. |
6. The coat-of-arms of the Epping Forest District Council. |
7. The logo of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. |
It was unveiled by the Mayor of Waltham Abbey, Liz Webster, accompanied by White Water Canoe (C2) Gold Medallist Etienne Stott.
This shield is a local project inspired by the Games. It commemorates both the history of Waltham Abbey and Waltham Cross and the London 2012 Games white water canoe slalom competition which was held at the neaarby Lee Valley White Water Centre The shield was unveiled by the Mayor of Waltham Abbey in September 2012 |
