A giant aluminium and steel sculpture of a kestrel, standing at 2.5m high with a 15ft wingspan atop the highest point between Great Notley and the coast. Each face of the plinth features four metal reliefs showing scenes from nature designed by local schoolchildren.
West: Parakeet - Ant (?) - Ladybug (?) - ? |
North: Ladybug - Snail - Fish - Parrot |
East: Ladybug - Horse - Spider - Mole Rat (?) |
South: Leaves with caterpillars - Owl - Ladybug - ? |
It was originally installed in 2000, and has become a much loved symbol of Braintree. Unfortunately the sculpture was stolen in 2007, and the artist made a replica, which was installed in 2008.
