Eight panels showing John Ray, and the history of shopping and trading in Braintree. They were carved in moulds of clay, and then cast with a special fine concrete and then coated with special resins to colour and protect them. The relief panels were commissioned by Sainsbury's for their new Braintree shop in 1983.

Drury Lane
4. Cloth production: a shepherd with sheep, a weaver and a cloth shop. |
5. Silk production: silkworm, silk weaving. |
6. Cattle market and a butcher: 'Taylor family butcher'. |
7. Beer production: upper part: grewing hop; lower part: and brewing beer. |
8. Bread production: upper part: harvesting grain, grinding it to flour; lower part baking and selling bread. |
