Description

The 'Poste de Lyon' (Lyon Main Post Office) was built by the architect Michel Roux-Spitz between 1935 and 1938. In the fa&231;ade of the building are several reliefs.

History of Lyon: Low reliefs at the entrance gates
The main entrance Place Antonin-Poncet 4-6 has three door, each with reliefs on both door posts, and each relief consisting of four panels with various scenes. The twenty-four reliefs represent the history of Lyon with scenes showing in most cases professions. The eight scenes of the left door, sculpted by Salendre in collaboration with J. Dulac, show the Gallo-Roman era and the early Middle Ages. The central door, sculpted by Henriette et Jeanne Bardey includes scenes from the sixteenth century: trades, main events, celebrities, including Philibert Delorme, Rabelais, etc. And the motifs on the right door, by Marcel Renard, show modern times.

The identification of the different scenes is our interpretation, the only source with identifications is the Art Deco site, but not aware of the history theme most of that author's identifications are not correct (describing the martyrdom of Saint Blandina as 'Torréro').
