Statues - Hither & Thither

 

Description

The Église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine was built after designs of the architects Delorme and Huguet and was consecrated in 1898.

On the porch of the church are four turrets with niches with stone statues of the four Evangelists.

The statues do not show the usual attributes of the Four Evangelists, they only have a book and a pencil in their hands. Identification was only possible for Saint John the Evangelist (4), the only beardless evangelist.

In the tympanum of the church is a coloured mosaic of God, with caption laissez venir a moi les petits enfants.
