The Kanephoros

Description

Stone statue of a girl carrying a basket. A Kanephoros was an honorific office given to unmarried young women in ancient Greece, which involved the privilege of leading the procession to sacrifice at festivals.

The statue was exposed in Paris in 1933 and inaugurated in Lyon in 1936.
