Statues - Hither & Thither

 

Description

Stone bust forming one part with the column. The column, now without any decorations, was originally adorned with bronzes: a graceful muse who, with a guirland of flowers between her arms, singing the couplets which are in the memory of all; further a goat grazing the vines that wrap around the stele and a young shepherd exercising on rustic pipelines. These bronzes were melted under the Vichy government in 1944.
At the base of the column is a frieze with a relief showing characters from Dupont's songs like Les Bœufs, la Vigne, la Mère Jeanne and les Sapins.

Jardin des Chartreux

In the Jardin des Chartreux are several monuments honoring some of Lyon's literary and artistic figures (most of them rather vandalised when we visited the park in August 2018):
