War memorial with two sides: one with tablets with names of victims, the other with a relief showing Joan of Arc with a halo, wearing a breastplate and a tunic fleurdelisee, and a sword on her belt. With her the right arm, in which she keeps a laurel wreath she supports a dying soldier wrapped in a flag and with her left arm she point into the sky. In the upper right corner of the relief is the cathedral of Strasbourg depicted.
On both sides of the monument:
a nos morts
LA Cne de SOMMIERES RECONNAISSANTE
Signed: m. real del sarte
The relief is almost identical to the bronze relief of the war monument in Briey (Meurthe-et-Moselle). The monument was commissioned by a member of the Vareilles-Sommières family from the Catholic and royalist sculptor Maxime Real del Sarte. The sculptor made two copies, one in marble for Sommières-du-Clain and the other in bronze for Briey. There is one small differences.
