Description

Bronze statue of Charles Mathieu holding a notebook. The pedestal is shaped as a corridor in a mine with logs at the corners and the top. On the sides of the pedestal is a relief of surveying instruments (right) and mining instruments (left). On the front is his name, and before the pedestal stand two stone statues of a young miner pointing to Mathieu's name to a sitting young woman.

The monument was destroyed during World War I and reconstructed afterwards.
