Annotation

Carnegie had donated $200,000 for the building of a new library in Reims, the old one destroyed during World War I. The bust was bought in 1921 for 2,100 francs from the Fonderie coopérative des artistes de Paris and was inaugurated in the garden of the library in 1928.
